General Discussion / The Dark Knight + The Watchmen trailer!
« on: July 18, 2008, 07:40:07 am »
The Dark Knight was absolutely awesome - go see it, asap. The Joker and his reasoning actually make sense by the end (at least to me - that's probably not healthy). Good back-and-forths regarding heroism, right vs wrong, good vs evil, nature of humanity, things like that. I expect I'll be seeing it a second time in theaters, and owning it when it hits DVD. More discussion will ensue when more people have seen it.

To help, no there's nothing after the credits. We waited.

However, you absolutely WILL want to catch the previews, just for the Watchmen trailer. Trust me, Youtube cannot do it justice. Also, 1000 karma and a little tag or something for the first person to give me the full (from the graphic novel / comic book) version of the quote at the end, as well as who says it.

For the other 99% of you who haven't read it, GO GET IT. It's like $20 at Borders (yes, the full thing), $14 or so on Amazon. It's an absolutely fantastic read - each character has tons of depth, the story's interesting and has a helluva twist at the end (so don't turn to the back when thumbing through it), and the discussion between _____________ and Dr. Malcom is a very poignant examination of the morality of humanity in general (and thus makes a good follow-up to TDK).

"Stood in firelight, sweltering. Bloodstain on chest like map of violent new continent. Felt cleansed. Felt dark planet turn under my feet and knew what cats know that makes them scream like babies in the night. Looked at sky through smoke heavy with human fat and God was not there. The cold, suffocating dark goes on forever, and we are alone. Live our lives, lacking anything better to do. Devise reason later. Born from oblivion, bear children, hell-bound as ourselves, go into oblivion. There is nothing else. Existence is random. Has no pattern save what we imagine after staring at it for too long. No meaning save what we choose to impose. This rudderless world is not shaped by vague metaphysical forces. It is not God who kills the children, not fate that butchers them or destiny that feeds them to the dogs. It's us. Only us."

I'm also taking the trailer and gonna try to make avatars out of the characters. First come first serve if you have a favorite character / one you like, but you have to be able to tell me who it is (Wikipedia is sufficient for that one - bonus if you can explain why you like them). I'm gonna have to watch the trailer a few more times, but I have two in mind myself, so we'll see. I might can also make avatars directly from the comic book itself, if you prefer.

e: And since I know y'all are wondering, yes, I had to get some moist towlettes and go to the bathroom for a few minutes after the trailer. The movie didn't quite hit me with the same rush, so I was fine going home. The movie has its own, but much more subtle, appeal - you watch it and come away with a very satisfied feeling, like the feel of a cigarette after really good sex.

Well well. I'm honestly surprised to see these boards still open. It has been a very very long time. My original account here was even deleted it seems. Or maybe I just can't remember the login for the life of me. Ex-GoRC, and Prophet of Google. Hello everyone.

Ex-GoRC?

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD

Oh, I like Khorne too, but Slaanesh is my homeboy / homegirl / whichever form (s)he's in at the moment.

Surely you remember the GoRCs. I just wouldnt exactly consider myself to be one anyone. But yeah Losing your internet connection can really mess up with posting on forums and such. But I got a good internet connection at work between calls and luckily this site isnt on their blocked list.

Oh, I know who the GoRCs are, I just found your identification as "ex-GoRC" interesting. So why do you not identify with them anymore, if I may ask? (If it's too personal, no worries, just curious)

Oh, and be careful - just because it's not blocked doesn't mean you can't get in trouble for it.

What do you know. Looking through some old postings I found my username and password. Back in business and still got my siggy

Anyone here listen to Bright eyes?

Got links?

And speaking of links, try these on for size.

She Wants Revenge is what Baby Jesus would listen to, so you should too. Especially to this song.

Welp, any idea what the words at the end are?
"See you at the bitter end"

I knew you'd link to a lyrics page, but is that seriously the best one you could find? It doesn't even have more than 2 of the lines at the end for crying out loud. Trust me, I've done the Google searches for the lyrics, I just haven't found any that I think match up yet.

"Meds"

"The Bitter End"

"Taste in Men"
"Running up that hill"

Listen to "The Bitter End" especially.

Good Lord. I found The Bitter End right before driving down to break up with my now-ex. Listened to it at least a dozen times on the way down, and a dozen times on the way back.

edit: Also, what do you think the song's about?
If only she listened to "Taste in Men", you two would have been perfect.

And I have no idea what the song's about.

Oh snap!

Welp, any idea what the words at the end are?

Precursors Artwork / Re: Precursors 'Fan Art'
« on: May 09, 2008, 03:46:32 am »
On the online forums GaiaOnline, (Link), I am holding an art contest. It is majorly an art/anime fan forums, so there are a lot of nifty artists there.

Here I'm going to post some of my favorites.

And this is the first one.
Read Simon's bio for the specific scene, (Link) but the artist, pach_work, depicted the scene in which Jonathan 'dies,' and truly becomes Simon, as his sweet Sylvia drives him to brutally murder Julia.

View it's godliness. Morgul had actually already asked me to draw this scene, and now that I've seen this one, I think I have the inspiration to do it.

I'll be posting more nifty ones as they come.

So where is the artist for this one? She registered on the forums yet?

General Announcements / Re: Forum Maturity Level
« on: May 06, 2008, 03:26:31 am »
To pick on a few random examples in my Unread Posts:
This one and the next few posts
This too (and the next few posts)

This are some good examples. I'm not pointing out anybody in particular - there's several people in those posts. However, the forums are not an IM replacement. You want to kibitz about a particular post like this, do it over IM. This isn't discussion, it's bullshitting, and as I noted earlier, it's pushing the signal:noise ratio waay too far into "noise." I likely won't follow a 1-2 punch strategy as windshipper outlined (though I'm well within my rights to do so), but I will be posting "okay y'all, cut it out" posts pretty frequently. People who abuse my patience will find themselves on the wrong side of banzville.

Try to minimize the use of "lol," "lulz," "omg," "rofl," etc. - AIMspeek belongs in AIM (and even that's arguable, but that's a discussion for another time).

There's plenty to discuss - music, movies, games, art. Hell, I'm going to be adding books to the mix with a Shelfari thread soon. And guess what, if you can't find anything to discuss, THAT'S OKAY! It's not like we need a million new posts per day - we're a small forum with only a few members; we don't have to compete with larger forums like 4chan and SA. It's just not gonna happen. A lack of super-frequent posting is not necessarily a bad thing, so don't feel under pressure to compensate for it. When you have something to discuss, by all means do so. But don't start posting "lol i know u do haha" just to fill space and pad your post count. It's unwarranted, unappreciated, and strongly despised.

Also, here's a CUH-RAYZEE THOUGHT! If y'all have so much free time and limitless energy, try coming up with something for GNE - you know, the whole purpose of the forums' existence?. You program? Do a little game. (Don't program? Learn by doing a game!) You write? Do a story. Draw? Artwork. Play games? Bounce around ideas. Used to we had several threads discussing how Precursors would work - the mechanics, the game play, the looks, the races. I miss those days. Let's bring 'em back (and  morgul and whitelynx into producing a playable demo :rockout: ),  aye?

edit #572: One last thing. Don't backseat mod. If someone's breaking the rules in a thread, let us take care of it. Don't put yourself in our shoes, or presume to make decisions on our part. We'll come down hard, both inside the thread and out, for it. If something troubles you so bad that blood is pouring from every orifice, there's a Report button next to the post. (Naturally, abuse of the report button will be met with disdain as well. In other words, use common sense people!) This includes criticizing content-level in the post, the forum it's posted in, what color the person was wearing when they posted it (I'm in a black shirt thanks for noticing :) ), etc.

That said, one way we (or at least I) plan to deal with idiots is to declare open season on them; when that happens, by all means feel free to berate them mercilessly.

I think she's trying to say that she's still a lesbian, but she just happened to fall in love with a man.

I expect so, but still, it's a weird sentence to read the first time.

ok that is just weird.
so is she saying her husband is feminine or something?

I honestly don't know, she hasn't replied in the thread yet.

33
:quagmire:

Please don't quote this LMAO.

So is it safe to say we can put this behind us?

Well, I don't like the phrase "put it behind us" - if you go back to your old shitposting ways then this will all be for naught. But if you mean stop discussing it, and just continue on keeping the lessons in mind, then sure. :)

Quote from: shrodinger's twat
Being someone who identified as lesbian for most of my life I now identify to other people as bi, not because I felt I changed, but because when I realized I loved a man my friends had a hard time wrapping their heads around it. I got tired of explaining that it wasn't all guys it was just him.

I still identify to myself and my husband as lesbian, I just happened to find "the perfect girl" for me in a guy. If it wasn't for him I'd still be purely pussy.

:uhm:

Available here - an SA thread on Lesbos Island suing the Greek government to stop the use of the term "lesbian." Post was made in response to one describing the state of use, stereotyping, and restrictions of the terms "straight," "lesbian," and "bisexual."

35
Trust me, I'm calm, so don't worry about that. You'd have to push me really hard to see me when I'm not calm. You're nowhere close. Just because I'm being an asshole, by choice, doesn't mean that I'm not saying what I say as specifically as I can, and as calmly as I can.

2) That's fine, and I'm not expecting you to (apologies if this wasn't clear). I'm sorry to hear you've gotten in trouble for talking about something as important and necessary as sex; that's something that puzzles me about today's culture as well - we view sex as so vital and important and sacred that we can't talk about it, and must instead treat it as the dirty little secret that everybody does but nobody acknowledges or admits to. At any rate, my goal isn't to force you to give a blow-by-blow of your sex life, or to get you in trouble; rather, I want to start / feed an internal dialog for yourself, so that you know why you're making the choices you are. You strike me as someone who hasn't given a lot of real, honest thought to it - you think you have, but have you really?

3) That's about it for advice right now - the reaction thing, the shitposting, and the internal dialog about run the gamut so far. I'll point out other stuff as we go along, though, don't worry. :)

And don't worry, you're showing a lot of improvement already. You'll fit in well, methinks. :)

36
ok I said I was ready to move on.
this wasn't needed.
Please don't assume that just because I have a girlfriend it means I'm fucking her because I'm not.
You didn't have to call her a "dumb fucking cunt of a girlfriend" either because as you said, you have never met her.
This is my last comment on the subject so can we please just drop it?
caenus made the point, I agreed with him, it should have been over after that.
no more please.

1) :uhm:... I wasn't calling your girlfriend a dumb fucking cunt. That remark was in respect to people that I know / know of personally, not in respect to your girlfriend. Apologies for the misunderstanding. (The ones I'm talking about totally deserve it though.)

2) If you're not having sex, that's cool too. It's your call. I somewhat guessed that from the "oversexed" comment, but then got confused with the "thanks to MY GIRLFRIEND I don't need porn" thing. Either way, just know why you're making that choice - can you justify it to yourself, beyond a "for the Bible tells me so" blind-faith reason? Same goes for the porn. And trust me, if you're not having sex, then you'll need a release somewhere. Use your own judgment, but (especially) if you want to do the whole abstinence till marriage thing, then you'd do well to find one. Doesn't have to be porn-related; just don't take the attitude that having a sexual appetite is a bad thing that you should try to stifle. You'll be much happier and healthier for it.

3) I saw several aspects of your behavior and especially attitude that I found troubling on a personal level, so I addressed them in as much an in-your-face way as I could, just because I'm awesome like that. This is another part of growing up - just because you say "hey I'm sorry I've learned and I want to move on" doesn't mean everyone else will just forgive and forget. I especially don't do the "forget" part of that. I hadn't addressed your (and others') excessive shitposting and soforth, so I chose to. You can't just say "okay I'm done now" and wave a magic wand to wish away all consequences. One consequence for your consistent immature attitude is that you get advice from others who've been there. Take it, or leave it, but you'd be foolish to shove your head in the sand and ignore it, and worse to try to stop people from giving it to you just because you're tired of getting reamed for acting dumb (especially since I haven't gotten a chance to put in my licks yet :buddy: ).

reply-edit: muahahaha you're too late lolo. And don't worry, you didn't upset me a whole lot. The frustration is due to the state of the forums, and this is one step towards correcting it. Beyond that, I was purposefully being an asshole for the purposes of getting my point across in no uncertain terms, rather than a blind seething rage at you or something. It upsets and saddens me to see so many people today making so many of the same mistakes, so my goal is to help when and where I can.

37
ok if I do anything wrong from now on please just let me know and I will stop.
It didn't need to go as far as changing my posts to insulting my girlfriend.

Allow me to chime in here a bit.

First off, as far as the "OMG YOU INSULTED MY GIRLFRIEND THAT WAS UNCALLED FOR" thing, give me a fucking break. I've seen dumb fucking people get in dumb fucking fights with dumb fucking retards who insulted their dumb fucking cunt of a girlfriend for dumb fucking (and patently obvious) reasons. And it was fucking dumb.

Don't be fucking dumb. Chivalry is dead, leave it buried in the last century where it belongs. Opening doors, being nice, etc. is all well and good, but the whole "I CHALLENGE YOU TO A DUEL FOR INSULTING MY LAYDEEZ HONAH" is stupid. Guess what? People are assholes, and they'll poke at you in any way they can. You have to toughen up, develop a thicker skin; otherwise, you'll have weaknesses, chinks in your armor that can let other people make you dance to their tune. I have a more personal example to give you; PM or IM me if you're interested (or I can post it here if other people are really interested).

It's part of growing up - you start to realize that a lot of the ideas you have about how the world works, how women work (and what they want), how you should act and behave and do things are actually pretty :downs:. I've been there, I'm still there, still working out where my reasoning is driving me off in the ditch. So just take it from someone who's been there and watched other people be there: there's a lot better things to choose (and no one can make you - your reactions are 100% in your control) to get riled up over than a slight to your girlfriend, who we've never seen, met, or know about.

Here's a bonus note: you'll neither get, nor keep, a girl by working yourself into a pissy firey rage when strangers on an internet forum make slights against her. THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A SECOND - you're getting pissed off at people you've never met, likely never will, making unfounded remarks about some girl you're dating / fucking. And if you've got any sense at all, you know that you very likely won't be dating or give a shit about her two years from now. Please tell me that strikes you as an absolutely absurd waste of your energy and time. Instead of getting pissy at us, go give your girl the multiorgasmic fuck of her life, and collapse in post-coital bliss while thinking to yourself "those assholes are just jealous" and let it drop. (Oh, and if you are dating one who does actually care about insults on the internets, FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE RUN. RUN FAST, RUN FAR. She's nothing but a huge dramabomb waiting to happen, and you really really don't want dramabombs. So get away. Preferably after getting one last good fuck in before you leave.)

Oh, and to be absolutely clear: I don't care if this offends you. It's the fucking truth, so think about it for a while. Let it marinate, sink in, and become understanding. THEN come back and tell me why I'm wrong, without resorting to a "you're a jerk because you insulted my girlfriend" bullshit. Otherwise, I will be pushing very hard for getting you banned.

Second, as far as the whole shitposting thing, that's something I've been noticing a lot lately, and you've been one of the worst. I've come to the point where I oftentimes log into the forums, click "unread posts" like I always do, skim the list, groan at the realization that there's not one good, useful, new, or interesting thing there. It's all back and forth readings of LOLOS GRAETSTE RETARDED ADVENTURES. Some's okay - playing around, blowing off steam - that's great. Lord knows I do it too. But when every thread turns into that, it brings the signal to noise ratio waaay too far towards the noise end, where I can't even browse these forums anymore. My time's valuable to me, and I don't want to waste 20 mins clicking through 30000 threads that are all one-liner tossback responses. This needs to be cut back (NOT stopped, but cut back heavily) by everyone, across the board. Windshipper's thread, for instance, is fine (I don't know why he's apologizing for it, but meh) - it's clear that it's a bullshit thread, and if I'm looking to have a high-brow discussion over the future of quantum mechanics, it won't be done there. But when every thread becomes something like that, then we have a BIG problem.

In short: all things in moderation, including moderation. Excess is necessary sometimes, because it's often the only way we can really learn the limits. We've had an excess of shitposting here, and it was necessary, because we can now see, for ourselves, up front and dirty and personal, what comes of it. But now it's time to cut back, and return this to a discussion forum, rather than a bullshit inanity forum.

Finally, if you're interested in maturing and toughening up, let me know. Something Awful is one of the best moderated forums I've encountered thus far (both from a "best among the boards that are moderated" and a "boards with the best moderation teams"). Bullshit like this doesn't fly there, at all. Posting half the stupidity I've seen here, from multiple parties, would get you banned in a heartbeat. Saying "oh please stop insulting my girlfriend you're mean" would just get you fucking reamed. And you will either have a nervous breakdown, or you'll toughen up, and start to appreciate having largely intelligent discussion with other internet denizens. Then, after a while, you'll start to enjoy seeing people fuck up like that, and watching the unholy terror hoards descend upon them. And a while after that, you'll be right along with them. And then you will be a grade-A asshole with a zero tolerance for stupidity, and a much better person for it. I'd be honored / entertained to buy you an account there; I either help you mature and become a better person, or I get to watch you crash and burn. Karma or entertainment, it's a win-win for me. :toot:

Preview edit: Also, just because you have a girlfriend doesn't mean you have no reason to watch porn (though some here will disagree with me). I've had girlfriends, and I still watch porn. Hell, some of the girls I've dated watch porn too. Don't force yourself or your relationship into any sexual stereotype. If you like porn, watch it. If she likes porn, all the better. If she's really opposed to it, then you'll have to decide what that means for you. If you think about it some, and conclude that you don't want to watch porn while you're dating a / this girl, awesome - that's your call. But don't jump to that conclusion just because you think that's the right answer - again, this goes back to the whole "chivalry is dead" thing. Live like you choose to live; don't appoint some creed as an absolute standard that you never question. This applies everywhere, not just to dating, and not just to porn.

1.) I wouldn't consider myself "over-sexed"
2.) I don't even use youtube. I've been on it like 5 times in my life and have never even read the comments.
3.) Insults that require thought tend to ruin the insult.
4.) I haven't watched porn since I was like 12.

1. I wouldn't consider you over-sexed either. You clearly haven't been fucked in a LONG time, judging by how little blood is left for your brain to use.
2. I can see why - the more you hide under your rock, the less the chance of encountering someone who expects you to conduct yourself with a modicum of intelligence. No encounters with other people, things, or ideas = no strain on your already heavily taxed mental abilities.
3. Just... Just.... Wha... My mind is blown. Fuck off, seriously.
4. And what kind of porn was it?

Considering his post count on this forum is higher than mine and he's only been registered a short time, I think it's a safe bet he's never been fucked.

Unless his hand counts.

Actually, I think I figured it out. He hasn't watched porn since he was 12, but he never put 2 and 2 together and figured out how to jerk off. So he's had a raging boner for the past umpteen years, unable to think OR walk straight, thus stunting his growth on all levels.

KMD: Here, lemme help. (Youporn is NWS you retards)

edit: I have been kindly informed that Redtube has higher quality vids, so poke around there too.

We never had the :downs: emoticon, I only added a few from SA.

You can add some if you want, cplan.  You ARE an admin, after all.

Ah, okay. Thought it required like server access or something.

How does one go about adding emoticons?

Oh fuck me, windshipper just realized he can add emoticons to GNE. This will either end awesomely or horribly, or both.
