Contractions are a grammatical form in the English language.  Some languages have an equivalent, but contractions are English.

Yes, none of us took sex ed or know anything about giving birth.

Or are you referring to cramps? Those are your uterus squeezing out the lining that has been built up, so technically those are contractions as well, from the muscles on the outside of your uterus.
