A mathematician is a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat which isn't there.

Oh, it's there . . . I just have yet to find the damn thing.

Brothers Grimm

Yeah, that's fine if you like it, but I totally disagree on that one.

Gabacho is the harsher term and is almost exclusively used for the purpose you described in Mexico and the Western US.  In fact, it's usage stems from Mexican slang as opposed to centralized language.  In Central America, we're Gringos.  Nicaraguans don't know what a gabacho is.  Gringo IS the universal term for foreigner.

Gringos don't call gabachos gringos, users of Mexican slang (i.e. gang members and Mexican people who are lower on the socioeconomic ladder) call gringos gabachos.

Trust me, in all the time I spent in Mexico, I was only called a gabacho ONCE.

And yes, Atreyu was the warrior kid on Neverending Story.

HOLY BALLS!!!

GO. SEE. IRON MAN.

NOW.

As a former semi-professional movie critic (and continued amateur critic) I have to say that this movie probably TIES with Batman Begins, if it doesn't beat it.  I won't say much more until people have had a chance to see it, but I'm definitely writing a review of this puppy for you guys.

Shaun of the Dead, while not necessarily a fantastic script/story/whatever, was by far the most intelligent parody I have ever seen and I hold in very high esteem for showing people like Mel Brooks that you don't have to be dirty or stupid to be funny and make fun of something (Mel only does that half the time - the writers of Scary Movie need to be drug out of bed, flayed, thrown into a pit of lye, and then shit upon).

General Announcements / Re: Forum Maturity Level

I'm going to second everything that has been said thus far by my fellow administrators and go one step further.

There are a few things that I ABSOLUTELY will not tolerate.

If someone else has pushed you to the breaking point, and your last nerve is worn so extremely thin that you piss yourself at loud noises and can't sleep at night, this does not give you the right to call them out in thread.  If someone's being a dumbass, then by all means, feel free to point it out to them.  Like contingencyplan said, don't do OUR job, but feel free to call them a dumbass.

What I don't want to see is a thread labeled "100 reasons that <random user> should be banned from the forums".

If you're pissed about something to that extent, you come to the mods.  I'm almost always online, and if I'm not, I check my PMs daily.  You can even email me if you need something.  WE WILL HANDLE IT.  It is not to be dredged up in front of everyone.  Someone on another forum I run tried to pull this, and it's not appropriate.  All you do is turn the general community against someone without allowing that person to make his/her case and be heard by somewhat objective ears.

Not only shouldn't you do our jobs for us, DON'T TELL US HOW TO DO OUR JOBS.  We've got things well under control, and we have something like 16-17 years worth of combined experienced administrating forums.  If someone IMs me with "So and so needs to be banned" as opposed to "So and so did this", you will likely not live to see the fallout from your decision to tell me how to do my job.  Of all the mods, I'm especially touchy about this.  I know what I'm fucking doing, don't tell me what I did wrong.

Also, I will warn you now, my greatest weapon against stupidity will be to let windshipper loose on you and then join him.  We did this to someone already, and this person was somewhat hurt by it.  I apologize for letting it get a little out of hand, but let me say this: if we start editing your posts in a manner that is less than playful or if we start doing things that you think go beyond having fun and joking around, there's probably an EXCELLENT reason for it, and we're trying to make a point.

The admins are not assholes who will abuse their power whenever they feel like it, we abuse our power when we feel it is necessary to teach someone a lesson.  Remember, guys.  I'm a teacher in real life, and I don't just come out and say "NO"; rather, I will sit you down and show you WHY you shouldn't do something, often by making you feel the way we feel.

We had a concert recently: 3 Doors Down, Chevelle, Red, and 12 Stones.

I was quite happy at the idea, unfortunately it fell right in the middle of thesis time.

You realize a glass of milk, a banana, advil, and lots of water will do it, right?

The two necessary electrolytes that you tend to lose are those involved in muscular contraction, namely potassium and calcium.

Heh, it's all been resolved.

Here's another fun one:

You perform partial birth abortions yourself with a straw, don't you?  You baby-eating freak.

Heard some random dude at the mall use that one.

Apparently he was trying to paint the mental image of someone sticking a straw into a woman's puss and sucking out a baby's brains through a crazy straw.

76
Fair enough, although you've got a lesson to learn in regards to comments made about people that are connected to you outside of the world of the forums.  I don't see you getting upset about "your mom" jokes.  Why?  Everyone knows they're just jokes.

That's all any of those posts were.  Sorry if I offended you.

77
Don't feel bad, man.

If you'll relax a little and realize you don't have to try to impress us or anything to fit in, we'll back off about your posts.  Deal?

78
You still don't seem to be listening though.  We don't want you to disappear.  We want you to join us and act like yourself, not some immature version of yourself.

You DID admit you screwed up, but the point was the second part of my sentence.  MOVE ON.

We don't want you to leave just because we picked on you.  I apologize for that, but we were trying to communicate a point - this ISN'T a playground, it's a place to kick back and have some good fun.  But as it IS also part of a business, it's a place to do so with a bit of decorum.

C'mon man, you think you can give it another shot?  I think you'll fit in just fine.

79
Kmd, what is this decision you're referring to?

Agreeing with someone to get them to stop isn't a good idea, honestly.  If people get onto you or start making fun of you, learn from it.  Tell them to shut up.  Admit you screwed up, and MOVE ON.

We're not asking you to be as smart as we are, but we're asking that you not TRY to be dumb.  We don't dislike you, man.  We dislike it when you act immature.
