Precursors Artwork / Simon Vector [Complete]
« on: July 12, 2007, 01:37:56 am »
Well, I was running Ginny through her paces art wise (basically a series of changing art styles from a single sketch), and I decided I'd try my hand at doing some pure vector inking of her sketch. She had chosen Simon as the subject for the sketch, and done it in about a minute on photoshop. I took the (very) rought sketch, and used it as a guide for this. I've put about half an hour of work into it so far, and I like how it's coming out. I'll keep posting progress reports as I go along, till I finish the piece. I'm rather proud of this, as I have very little art talent myself.

So, without further ado, here's what I've got so far...

General Announcements / Difficult Decisions a long time in coming.
« on: June 13, 2007, 01:45:37 pm »
Recently I have been making a good deal of decisions in my personal life that effect GNE. Basically, I am now out of school indefinitely and because of that I feel a strong urge to dedicate a good deal of time to GNE. This has meant a reevaluation of where we're headed as a company.   Some difficult decisions have been made, and it's now my job to break the bad news to everyone. (One of the reasons this post has been put off as long as it has is because of just how difficult these decisions have been for me.)

If you follow the news on the sites, you already know what I'm about to tell you. Precursors has been officially put on hold. What this means is that we're no longer focusing our main development efforts on it. We will be focusing on another project, Alluvion Storm. The reason for this is simple. Alluvion is a very small scope project, and should be completed in two years. This would allow for us to get a publisher, and push out our first game. From that point we would be able to hire the current development team, and start making some money. Then we would reassert our efforts on Precursors, and turn it into something to rival World of Warcraft.

I apologize to how how difficult this might be for some. If you would like to keep working on precursors, please do. I'd love to have enough people to start of a separate precursors development team. However, the main GNE team won't be doing more than helping out in their off time.

I would also like to link to Dave's wonderful post on his thoughts about this. (here

Thank you all for your continuing support,

Chris

Precursors / Ideas for a Character Generator...
« on: May 29, 2007, 10:41:47 am »
Here's a youtube video of a program called Quidam which edits stock models and lets you create new characters. Well, I saw these videos of it and I think that we want to do something kinda like this for the Character Generator. Check out the video, and the others listed in the side. Think we can do something like this?

"We apologize for the inconvenience..."
A Comedic Precursors RP
GM: Morgul

Overview:
Several League Officers have decided to take their shore leave at a resort colony. The fact that this resort colony is near a contested region of space doesn't bother them; it's the quickest for most of them to get too, seeing as how they've been fighting on the front lines. Unknown to the officers, the resort has been making a tidy profit offering accommodations to both the League and the Terrans while keeping both sides unaware of each other's presence there.

Unfortunately, the colony is listed as a civilian resort, which makes it a prime target for Pirates. While most pirate groups wouldn't travel this far from Freelance space, a rather daring group of Pirates, "The Brothers of Hermes" have received word that the daughter of a very influential and very rich League Admiral is visiting the resort. They plan to invade the colony, loot, and most importantly, capture the daughter of this League Admiral. From all the information they have, the colony is completely unguarded. The worst they have to deal with is a few snobby civilians... or so they think.

Setting:

Location:
The RP will be taking place on the colony. A colony is a very big place, however, the actual resort section of the colony is rather small, and contained entirely on an island about twelve miles from the main colony. Lathos Colony Resort, as it is known, is a very beautiful place, with beaches, a golf course, and plenty of sports areas. They also offer hiking through 'Zeus Woods' areas in the center of the island, or the 'jungle' of Titan Island. There are boat trips, fishing, and even underwater tours of the nearby ocean ridge. Diving on 'Hades Reef' is allowed, but is rather expensive, and only two trips every other day are made. (The resort has been receiving a good deal of pressure from ecologists to stop the dives on the reef.)

If you're really looking to get away from it all, the resort has townhouses that can be rented. However, the resort performs background checks on anyone who wishes to rent one for 'security' reasons. They also charge exorbitant amounts of money. Each townhouse has it's own security, including monitors, reinforced doors (expertly disguised as carved wooden doors), and 'non lethal repellent systems' (The hotel doesn't explain what these systems are, or what they do).

Note: Attached to this post is a map of the colony. Read it, love it, know it.

Timeline:
Since this is a non canon RP, I really don't care how screwy the timeline gets. If you want to play a character that shouldn't show up for a few more years, or has already been killed, or whatever, I don't care. We'll claim this happens after David is captain of the Archigos II, but before the League's fall. That means, in general, there's high animosity between the League and the Terrans. Also, it means that the events of Requiem have already happened... for the most part.

Characters:
If you are interested in making up your own character for this RP, please pm me with your idea, and I'll work with you to get a sufficiently fleshed out character ready. If you already have one, that's even better. I am currently looking for people to play NPCs, and I don't mind if people play more than one character, though I will ask that you keep it to one Player Character, unless you can convince me you can play more then one at a time.

I will be posting a list of NPCs soon, so you can pick and choose from those. Please, don't reply to this thread, as this is where the RP will be. PM me, or start a new thread elsewhere if you want to discuss things. I will be deleting posts in this thread that aren't actual RP.

RFI Roleplaying / The Rules (Read before Posting)
« on: May 22, 2007, 10:30:23 am »
The Rules:

1) No Adult Content. This means no sexually explicit scenes, and no overly graphic scenes. Use your judgment.

2) Whoever starts a RP is the GM. They are in charge of making the story flow, and keeping the other RPers in line. This does not mean they are god, or that they can ignore these rules. Any disputes should be brought to a Moderator over PM.

3) No Metagaming. Be realistic in your RP. Your characters, while fantastic, aren't gods; they shouldn't be able to defy death, or even the laws of physics without a good reason. It's no fun RPing with invincible characters. Also, remember that just because you may know something outside the RP, it doesn't mean you character knows it.

4) No Flamewars. All disputes should be taken to a Moderator. If you still feel the need to insult someone, do it over PM. It does not belong on the forums.

5) You are only in control of your character's actions. You control what your character does, and what happens to them. Don't control other RPer's characters. Give them a chance to respond. For example, don't say, "I draw my sword, and slice your arm off." That's no fun, and doesn't give the RPer a chance to react. Instead, say, "I draw my sword and swing, aiming for your arm." If they're a good player, they will either take the hit, or at the very least give you a good reason why they still have an arm.

6) For Dice RP's use the forum's Dice RollerWe have a dice roller built into the forums. It's very nice, as it prevents editing. (If you edit a post with a roll in it, it breaks the roll code. This is intentional.) Using it is very simple. There are two types of rolls, 'dice' rolls, and 'stats' rolls. The code for using them is below:

Code: [Select]
: dice 5d3+1:(Remove the space after the first colon, so it looks like :dice {number}d{sides}{modifier}:) This produces the following:

Dice Roll (5d3+1):
 (3 + 3 + 3 + 1 + 2): (12 + 1) = 13

Code: [Select]
: stats 5d10+3,y,10:(Remove the space after the first colon, so it looks like :stats {number}d{sides}{modifier},{drop lowest},{number of times to roll}:) This produces the following:

Stats Roll (5d10+3, lowest dropped):
2,2,5,5,6:(18 + 3) = 21
6,2,3,1,8:(19 + 3) = 22
9,8,1,1,10:(28 + 3) = 31
4,2,7,6,3:(20 + 3) = 23
1,7,6,10,4:(27 + 3) = 30
7,7,3,6,8:(28 + 3) = 31
9,8,9,3,3:(29 + 3) = 32
5,8,4,7,8:(28 + 3) = 31
1,6,6,2,7:(21 + 3) = 24
6,5,8,2,10:(29 + 3) = 32

If you feel something isn't covered here and should be, please pm me about it. Above all else, use your judgment, and remember this should be fun for all involved.

General Discussion / Back...
« on: May 21, 2007, 02:50:01 pm »
Well, I'm back, 'officially'. I'm in the middle of a good deal of major life decisions, and one of the things I've decided is that Precursors had languished too long. I know the semester's been rough; it's been hell for me. Still, I think it's time for renewed vigor, and a new set of goals and direction for Precursors. Expect quite a bit of work to be done in the near future.

I also just want to let everyone know that I now have several pots in the fire, so I will be working on many projects not just precursors. I'll also be working, and moving (most likely) so I can't promise to be the most present, but I will be here, and I will be pushing this forward. I've pretty much decided that now's the time to make this my life. So I'm going to.

Well, consider this my little inspirational speech to all the forumites.

Oh, one last thing... Anyone interested in doing some RP on these forums? I'll setup a RP section if people want to. :-D

Artwork / Bit of Something I was working on...
« on: March 18, 2007, 08:12:56 am »
Well, here is a bit of something I worked on to keep me busy while Ginny (my g/f) was off at a winter guard event... She did the sketch, I colored it, and cleaned it up a bit. Eh, nothing major, and it's not done yet, but it's getting there.

Precursors Artwork / NorAellian Sketch
« on: February 05, 2007, 10:54:58 pm »
Here is a sketch Cory did of a NorAellian. The shoulders are very interesting, as they come right off the back, and if you look at the mini sketch of the NorAellian's back, which looks kinda like a human chest.

General Discussion / Buy This Book!

BUY THIS BOOK:

http://www.amazon.com/Our-Existence-Joseph-Zvirzdin/dp/1430308850/sr=11-1/qid=1164761783/ref=sr_11_1/103-7117247-1751825

Ok, no, I'm not forcing you to buy this book. However, it's a VERY interesting read (only read a little bit of it, since I've not been able to get a copy of it of my own) and it's written by someone I know. A good deal of the theories in this book reflect the ones I used while creating the precursors universe, so it might be a good idea to brush up on that. Now, I will warn you, he's expecting you to already have some understanding of both special and general relativity, as well as string theory. You don't need a PhD, but you need to know the general ideas.

So, pick it up, give it a read.

Precursors / Check out the original 7th Game story.
« on: November 22, 2006, 05:25:06 pm »
I posted in the novel's section (here: http://forums.g33xnexus.com/index.php/topic,657.0.html) a link to the original manuscript that I wrote and lost years ago. My sister found a disk in a pile of forgotten school stuff, and sure enough it's literally the version from the last time I worked on it. So, while it's not done, this is as done as I've ever had anything on the novel be. So, go read, and enjoy seeing where I had been going with it. Who knows, I might finish it with the original ideas intact, just to see what it could have been. We'll see.

Requiem for Innocence / [Arc 1:] Prelude for Requiem
« on: October 07, 2006, 03:19:17 pm »
So, anyone confused yet? It might be a bit much to take in, and it has been a bit much to try and write coherently. Eh, people should pick up on it quickly enough. I hope.

So, thoughts?

General Announcements / Requiem For Innocence launched!
« on: September 28, 2006, 09:24:15 am »
Well, I've finally decided to announce the launch of Requiem for Innocence, an online graphic novel that takes place in the 'Precursors Universe'. Currently Caenus and I have been working very hard on the script and artwork, while Dave works hard on the site. We've run into a few issue moving it over to geexnexus.com, so for now, it's being hosted on adidas. I encourge you to go and take a look; a lot of hard work is being done there, and we'll be updating regularly for a while (eventually we'll need to go to once a week updates insteadof three times a week, but we hope to be able to get the current story arc under our belt before we do that.)

As a disclaimer, it's a bit confusing and the artwork is pretty bad for the first handfull of strips. It picks up about 6 strips in, so please don't judge us until you've read some more of it. Thanks!

--Morgul

P.S.: Currently, the comic is at: https://adidas.servegame.org/comic/

56
Well, we've decided that Requiem For Innocence will go online on Monday, September 11th. The comic will update once every two weeks while we get the hang of it, and then it will eventually move up to weekly updates. (The goal is to eventually have two or three updates a week, but we'll need to have a large enough backlog to work from in order to do that. Donations would most certainly convince us to do that.)

As a free little gift, I present to everyone on the forums the 'Cover' for the first Arc, 'Prelude for Requiem'. Enjoy.

Update: Unfortunately, it appears that we won't be able to go live with the site as planned. Currently there are some difficulties with the site itself, and whitelynx doesn't feel it can be ready in a few hours. Instead, he would like to push it off to October 31st, and I agreed. Until them we will be previewing the site to a few select people. When it goes life, it will be at: http://comic.g33xnexus.com. Sorry for the delay, folks.

Update 2: Well, it looks like the site's coming along well. However, to hold people over, we've put up a filler at: http://www.g33xnexus.com/comic (still tryong to get the subdomain working right.) So, have a look, ejoy, and keep checking back as we will have the first arc up in no time. (Well, more like a week or so, but still.)

Update 3: We're having some trouble with g33xnexus.com. So, for now the site is 'Live' and hosted on a secondary server: https://adidas.servegame.org/comic/ (This will be changing as soon as g33xnexus.com is repaired. Don't worry, we'll let you know.) Regardless of this, we consider the site 'Live' and we're going to be pointing people to it from now on!

General Discussion / Forum Rules and Decorum [Newbies, Read First!]
« on: September 04, 2006, 12:47:17 am »
Forum Rules and Decorum
Updated September 4th, 2006

Preamble:

Well, we've gone almost two years without a set of standing rules, but I figured that in light of some recent personal conflicts I've heard about (on a different set of forums, but by people who are also users here) I figure it's time to outline my iron fisted rules. Keep in mind, these are flexable in the sense that I treat ever user and situation as unique, and individual. They are inflexable in the sense that I do NOT make exceptions for friends, 'emotional trauma' (I've yet to see someone who can top me in that department), or 'jokes'. You don't have to offend anyone on the forums; all that is necessary is for me to be offended or think it's out of line for you to get in trouble.

Behavior:

I expect everyone on the forums to act civilly. Personal issues do not belong on these forums. Bigotry, Intollerance (of any kind) and tempers will not be tolerated. Should a personal issue arrise, the correct manner of dealing with it is with pm's, e-mails, im's, etc off the forums. Do not involve me, or anyone else, if it can be avoided. If you would like me to interceed on your behalf, simply pm me, explain the situation, explain what you and the other person have done to attempt to resolve it, and then I will either accept or decline. Do not ask for my help a second time.

Should a personal issue appear on the forums, this is how it will be handled.

1) I will pm which ever party seems to be out of line, and explain why they are out of line.
2) Should posts be offensive, or deragotry, they will be deleted, and/or the post will be locked, and possible read access will be removed for everyone but admins. The thread may be split, depending on topic, and my mood.
3) If users continue to let their personal problems appear on the forums, I will ban both parties for 3 days.
4) If that has not remove the issue, I will perma ban both users, and delete their accounts.

Once things get to #4, the only way to ever be a member of these forums again is for you to write an appology to myself, the forum members, and to the other party, explain what you did wrong, why you felt you could ignore my warnings, and why it won't happen again in the future. This must be a minimum of 150 words. I will post it publically, and I will consult some, or all of the admins before allowing you back in. This is on a per user basis. Just because one party did it doesn't mean I will unban both. Appologies must also be unique, and can't be copy/pasted.

Post Quality:

There are a good number of people on this forum who cannot spell. Myself included. However, if I[/i] can catch your spelling mistakes, then there is a problem. Generally so long as it's not too far off, I'm fine, but do not post any posts that look like this:

Quote from: R3t4Rdz0rZN00b73t
Omg, leik teh ohter day wen i was wolkingb past teh maryott hotil, i saw a sine for a gam3rz0rz con! ti w4s leik soooooooooooooopp tptalie awsum. i bet thair are leik CS grils n' shti. if tere R any grils tere i w4nt to doo thum. brb, n33de mt. dew.

Posts like the above will earn you my scorn, and I will make fun of you for it (in a single post). Everyone on the forums will also be allowed one post making fun of your post (within reason). After 24 hours, the thread will be locked, pm sent to you, and I will also send you a few sites about why net speak, and spelling are good. I might even let Contingencyplan explain in painful detail why good grammar is appreciated.

Post content is also important. Should you post about objectional material, I will deal with you in whatever way I feel is most appropriate. (How I deal with you is up to me. This is a carte blanche for me, so be wary. If you are unsure, pm me, or another admin, and ask. If an admin says it's ok, and I feel it's not, I'll be polite to you, and chew out the admin.

 Final Comments:

If you don't feel this policy is fair, please, leave. I refuse to let any bullshit ruin these forums for the people who visit them. I will be fair, and if you don't feel i'm being fair, tell me. I'm a rational human being. This may sound like I'm being a hard ass, or am angry, I'm not. Honestly, I want these rules to sound threatening, and scary. If they don't then there's a chance they will get broken, and that's what I want to avoid. Seriously, all of these rules have been in plave for the last two years, they just haven't been listed. If you've not had a problem up till now, you will not have a problem in the future. So far, none of these rules have had to be used, and I want to keep it that way.

Oh, a final comment. All admins have the right to follow these policies the same as if they were me. I do, however, retain the right to overturn any decision made by any admin. Also, admins must consult me before taking any action such as temp or perma bans, or even post deletions. Nothing permanant can be done without my authorization.

General Announcements / Subversion moving.
« on: August 08, 2006, 10:36:32 am »
We are currently in the process of moving subversion over to our brand new, shiny server. This means Trac and SVN won't be hosted off a cable modem anymore! Yaaaaay!

There is a downside. Until we get SVN moved over, and our dns transfered, SVN will be unavailable. (Actually, that's not true, but you'll need to use an IP address). I will post more details as they become available.

General Announcements / Forum Layout Changes
« on: August 05, 2006, 10:23:55 pm »
In preparation for the debut of Requiem for Innocence I have rearranged the Forums. The Seventh Game: Precursors forum has become 'The Seventh Game' and 'General Discussion has become 'Precursors'. I moved the 'Bug Reports' and 'Suggestions' boards to be children of 'Precursors'. I have added a 'Requiem for Innocence' board, and moved the 'Comic' board to 'Story Arcs' under 'Requiem for Innocence'. (If you don't understand this last statement, don't worry, you can't see it anyway.)

Well, I hope I don't get killed for this new change ;)

Requiem for Innocence is an online Graphic Novel (read: comic) based in the Precursors Universe. It will feature characters from The Seventh Game: Precursors novel, and others created solely for the comic's purpose. It is drawn and inked by Caenus, colored by myself, and lettered by whitelynx, who also helps me with coloring. It is not online just yet, however we're currently getting the site online, and once we finish the first story arc, we will be posting it once a week. This will give us time to get a few arcs under our belts.

So, get ready to experience this universe in a way you've never thought of before.
