Good Idea. I like it.

Precursors / Game Music
« on: August 15, 2005, 03:28:13 pm »
I guess the only problem I'd have with people putting in their own music is that the music won't take on the life of the game. Every game has music that's associated with it...Mario music....you listen to that music soo much that it's embedded in your skull and you associate it with the game. That's lost if you don't create music for the game.  I suppose you could say you'd associate it with your music...but it's not the same. But that's just my two cents.

Would these Lengendary characters be NPCs or what? I was just wondering... Because that might be a good character for a dev. or two to have. Not as a character that's played often, of course, but it would give them a character to play that already has a reputation. Just a thought.

Also, what about people who want to make Lengendary characters? What's going to be done about that? Are you just going to let them, or is it going to be not allowed? ...and if not allowed, how are you going to go about that?

Precursors / Races
« on: August 14, 2005, 02:35:41 pm »
Okay, getting back to the idea of races and not making this into a thread strictly on AI, I'd like to say a few things on my opinions on race (since I'm the one that started Chris along this track to begin with)

My original thought was if they have been exploring space for all this time, then they would have come across SOMETHING. Not much certainly, but a race or two at the very least...more than likely more. The Sooni are cool and all, but I think of them as kind of an offshoot of humans in a lot of ways. I think there needs to be something that was just there. It wasn't created by something/someone else (unless you count God, but that's another can of worms). It just came to be through good old evolution and was discovered by the humans of this world. It just seems a bit far fetched to me that they still think they're alone. If nothing else, I highly doubt it would be a surprise that there's someone else out there.

You also can't forget about the people that just stayed home and didn't want to go out and fight. I'm not saying they wouldn't be affected, but it'd be kool to be able to play life from the other side. Like a kind of woman at home with the children while dad is at war type of thing to use a horrible stereotype. I mean, some business is going to have to go on as usual.

For example, what if I wanted to play a Psychologist(surprise surprise, that's my major). That's the kind of thing that would still be needed during a war, in fact moreso. War tends to screw people up :P

Precursors / Game Music
« on: August 13, 2005, 09:07:05 pm »
I think my biggest concern here is that it'll be cookie cutter music....no offense, but a lot of game music sounds the same to me. You guys should definitely try something different where this is concerned...  No talk about a generic feel...

Maybe have different music depending on the character you choose. Like music for the different classes or something.  I don' t know, maybe that would be too hard to do, but I think it'd be neat.

Another idea while I'm kind of brainstorming: having some sort of a way to post what your character is feeling so the music can change depending on their mood....then totally separate music if their in battle.

Don't be afraid to have singing either. That's another thing, most is all instrumental.... I think it'd be neat. If I were more confident in my singing I'd offer my services as a vocalist, but I'm not. But if someone else is confident in my singing feel free to volunteer me. Just let me know  :P

General Discussion / Introduction Thread: New users, please post here!
« on: August 13, 2005, 08:56:01 pm »
I'm Ericka Yohe, girlfriend of the freak that started this whole thing (I love you hunny). From that I'd think it'd be obvious where I heard about the game.....some days I wish I would stop hearing about the game.

But seriously, I'm here to support Chris and do what I can despite not having one shred of a clue about anything computers or cs. I do however read a lot of fantasy and even write a little so I help out with the story a lot and have just started some work on creating star systems. If you need an outsiders view on things, I'm your girl. Or if you need something to look pretty....damn guys

Precursors / Update??
« on: August 13, 2005, 08:41:28 pm »
Just a thought, you may want to update this. It's not true anymore.....unless I'm just confused and your not changing it with respect to the game, just your story.

How can the smart ones weed out the stupid ones if most of the smart ones get killed by someone else's mistake?

You could make it so that weapons were in groups and you have to have worked with certain ones before you can use certain others or you need to have worked with so many in the group to properly use this or whatever. That way, you make it so that they have a certain level of experience before they touch the big guns.

You don't even have to do this on all of them - I'm just saying some of the big guns. Otherwise you have a whole bunch of people possibly making some really fatal mistakes (possibly on other players, which isn't fair) because they're trying to use a weapon that's too big for their breaches so to speak.

Precursors / Working Together
« on: June 14, 2005, 11:28:18 pm »
Has anyone thought of maybe making it so that players can team up as a crew not just as a fleet or having everyone go all out for themselves? I don't know exactly how it would work but it's a thought......

You could even use it as a tool to make the game more realistic and/or like you see on shows like Andromeda and Star Trek where you get to see them working to fix things and deligating and stuff like that. Actually make it so that people can play the captain OR the engineer OR even the ship's doctor. I think it'd be kool to create a character that had healing powers and make them part of a crew. That's something I could get into....especially if the ship had a real mission like you see on tv....some greater purpose like restoring the commonwealth is in Andromeda.

I don't even know if this is stuff that can be done...I just thought it was an idea worth posting....see what people think. Let me know  :)

Precursors / What is important to the users?
« on: June 14, 2005, 08:36:15 pm »
Do I count as the people? Well tough because Chris told me to post some responses. I'll post to what I understand - how's that? Here's my vote:

1.Stability - If you can fix it now, do it unless you foresee problems later that might screw up what you just fixed....keep it clean as you go.

2.Systems - Get the ships to work right before you throw them into ANYTHING.

3.RTS/Capital Ship -If you have systems, you need fleets as well, everything else seems to hinge on this if you ask me.

4.AI - Now you need something to interact with....at least that's what I'd think.

5.Damage - Now that you have the ships working right and something to shoot at, you can figure out how to blow them up.

6.Combat - Now that you can blow them up, it only makes sense to figure out how combat is gonna work. Another reason I put RTS before this is because you want to work that out before you hit combat so nothing changes later because you didn't take that into account.

7.Planets - You can fight - you have something flashy to show people and get them hooked - now get to the rest of the game - the kind of thing that interests people like me - and make it good - make it so you can play the entire game on those worlds if you want so you have a bigger audience playing.

8.Polish - Once you have everything basic down, now you can polish it and give it the final touches so to speak.

9.Networking - Get everything polished and ready to go before you make it so players can actually play.

This is all very basic because my knowledge of this is very basic. I hope this helps. I know how important this game is to you guys.
