Title: Sports Discussion
Post by: Kmd4390 on August 07, 2008, 12:57:51 pm
I was skimming through a board of the newly popular game on here Quid Pro Quo and noticed that there a few people who have mentioned pro sports on there. I am a HUGE sports fan and am actually going to college for sports journalism. I figured we should have a thread to discuss the latest sports new or just sports in general.

To give us something to start with, I am a New York Yankees fan and an Oakland Raiders fan (yes, I admit to that).

Also, we all know about the Brett Favre situation. What does everyone think of it? Not sure how many have seen the latest news but he was traded to the New York Jets. I think that this is the best situation for everyone involved. Favre gets to play again, the Packers don't have to play against him and can move forward with Rodgers, and the Jets get one of the best QBs in recent years.

Yes, sports. I don't know what anyone's interest level is but it's worth a try.

Favre coming back was a poor decision on his part motivated by self-interest. While I can understand where he's coming from, I think that it was a good idea for the Packers to tell him "please don't come back", and then when he forced their hand, to trade him to the Jets.

He's done this for a few years now, always causing a ruckus by "Oh golly, should I retire or not?" and it was getting tiring. Either say you'll do something and stick with it, or don't do it. The Packers, at some point, needed to move on rather than let him distract the locker room during Training Camp another year and allow him to cause a dramarama. As such, I think they made the right decision.

Favre, meanwhile, has GOT to be regretting this, as he will soon be killed in New York by rampaging defensive linemen. Hopefully at some point he realizes what a nonce he's been about retiring/not retiring.

He's a great QB, but, for god's sake, make up your mind sometimes. Is he the same way with his wife in bed? "Honey, let's have sex tonight. Wait, well, no, I mean, I dunno, I'm feeling old and rusty, and my joints hurt. Should we? We should. But man, I don't want to get injured and be handicapped for life..."

He is a better QB than Rodgers is. The only problem is that Rodgers is the team's future and has sat on the bench for too long.

I think Green Bay would have been a better team this year if Favre had started for them. I think they are better in the long run without him.

I think he will play well in New York. I considered Favre the best QB in the league last year. He didn't have a Moss/Welker, Wayne/Harrison, or Owens on his team. He had Jennings who is a good reciever but he is NOT a Randy Moss caliber player. Assuming Favre is still in shape, the Jets look like the #2 team in the division and should compete for a wild card spot this year.

Every sport has a Brett Favre. (Roger Clemens who is finally more than likely gone, Mark Martin, Greg Norman, hell I even work with some one who does this.) These people all say that they are done or close to done and then keep going.

I love the comparison to sex by the way.

The real question is, assuming the Favre mess didn't happen, what were the Jets thinking having Pennington number one on the depth chart?  Absolute madness.

Pennington isn't that bad. He has a reputation of being fragile but he isn't a bad QB.
I just saw this morning that they released Pennington.

What team does everyone think he will end up with?

My money is on Miami. The way it is now, it looks like Josh McCown is their starter. If not him, it's Beck or Henne. Pennington would be a good fit to start. If anything happens to him, they are back where they would be anyway with three QBs who could start.

He's one of those guys who is good when he isn't injured (which is often), and when he doesn't have to throw more than 20 yards up the field.  Miami isn't a bad bet, though I doubt Parcells wants someone 'broken' to rise his team from the grave.

Pennington alone won't fix the team. Miami has made several moves this offseason. I'm not going to call the Dolphins a playoff team if they get Pennington (or anyone else) but I can see them signing him.

What???
You didn't see it coming.
I've only made a few calls better than this one.
For example, T.O to Dallas, called halfway through his last season with the Eagles.

Maybe I just know Parcells....

Maybe you watch ESPN, since they were calling it too.

All I saw on there was yesterday "Dolphins sign Chad Pennington".

So, good move by the Dolphins? I think so. They have a good starter in Pennington and if he gets hurt, well they are just where they thought they'd be this year anyway. McCown, Henne, and Beck.

Like I said, Miami still isn't a good team but this is a good move.
