From talking with Cae, it's apparent that there's a TON of movies that I need to see. So I started a google docs spreadsheet, available here (http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pRJrtNb5C4Pp7S9EF7-FPHQ). Feel free to post movies in this thread, and we'll add them to the list.
-
Hmm, I can't seem to edit it. Can you add [email protected]?
-
Right now, only Cae, morgul, and myself can edit it - just post here and we'll stick your suggestions in.
-

A ton of movies? I only see two. :colbert:
Have you seen any of these?
Groundhog Day
Training Day
Rebecca
Rear Window
African Queen
The Graduate
Dirty Harry
The French Connection
-
I haven't had a chance to add them to the list yet.
And yeah, those you listed are GREAT.
-
-Pitch Black
-Chronicles of Riddick.
If you don't like the first, still watch the second. They're basically completely different movies.
-Serenity
-Patton
-Boondock Saints
Those are just off the top of my head.
-
And if you like the second, but not the first, you deserve a half brick to the skull.
Also, Boondock Saints RULES.
-
And if you like the second, but not the first, you deserve a half brick to the skull.

They all rule.
Patton most of all though, but that's just because I have a fascination with the man.
-
Harry Potter 3 and Star Wars Episode 1, bitches.
The two movies that might rival my all time favorite: Legally Blond 2.
...though Sixteen Candles rocked too...
-
:commissar:

As much as I don't get along with you sometimes... Just because you like Boondock Saints I might offer to bare your children.
But *cough* back to what I came here to say...
SLC Punk
Trainspotting
Cloverfield
Vampire Clan
Ginger Snaps
King of California
There's this one movie... I forgot what it's called but I'll look it up in a bit. Basically this guy has a disassociative mental disorder. He ends up dating this blow-up doll, and he has to cope with every day normal life with this "real-doll" girlfriend.
-
Ginger Snaps?
:commissar:
Lost Boys, I could forgive, but Ginger Snaps?!
Also, Trainspotting is really cool.
-
Meh - I'm a fan of really cheesy gory movies =)
Trainspotting is one of my all time favorites.
-
Here's another fun one:
Pi
-
says the mathematician. :-p
-
Yeah, well . . . you don't have to be all :math: in order to enjoy that one. It's from Darren Aronovsky, the director of Requiem for a Dream.
-
Here are some of Ginny's favorites.
-Children of Men
-Pan's Labyrinth
-Stranger Than Fiction
-The Big Sleep (yay, black and white goodness)
-Ball of Fire (more black and white goodness)
-The 10th Kingdom (actually a mini-series)
-Reservoir Dogs
-The Producers (the original)
-The Illusionist
-Sin City
-Unbreakable
-A Beautiful Mind
-Spirited Away
Those are just the ones to come to mind...
-
12 Angry Men
-
Syriana
12 Monkeys
Hard Candy
-
Wow, I completely forgot about this movie. Well, I haven't thought about it much, but one movie comes to mind:
Chinatown.
It's a surprisingly good movie.
-
-Donnie Darko
Don't even ask.
-Thank you for smoking.
-
I have yet to see Thank You For Smoking.
However, Donnie Darko = <3
-
Those are all excellent.
Hard Candy messes with the head.
And Chinatown is a BEAUTIFULLY done example of film noir. Excellent suggestion.
-
Yeah, it wasn't anything like what I was expecting. I like all of the unexpected twists and turns.
-
here's one, it's by Alfred Hitchcock(and no Chris, it's not the Birds or Psycho)
Vertigo
-
Seriously though, there was talk about Sheena and Windy babies.... how can you all ignore that?
-
That was probably intentional Chris.
-
how can no one have said dodgeball yet???

-hitman
-one missed call
-I am legend
-scary movie 1,2,3 and 4(4 is the best)
-anything with adam sandler

With the exception of I Am Legend, my response to those is: WHAT?!
You make the movie critic :suicide:
-
*pat**pat* Caenus....
Calm down hun.
-
Not trying to be mean. Everyone DOES have their right to their opinion, and I'm glad you enjoy those.
I just personally strongly dislike (read: would rather have shards of glass in my eyes than watch) quite a few of those movies and the subset of film that they represent.
-
I personally agree.
Although - I'm obliged to like Adam Sandler... but that's because he's Jewish.
-

I am in complete concurence. I've seen next to none of those for that reason. But hey, this is an opinionated section.
-
exactly!
-
I'm not a fan of retarded "funny" stuff, which is why I used to not like Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler. However, Eternal Sunshine (and The Truman Show) changed my mind about the former, and Reign over Me for the latter.
Both actors are good when they aren't cast in their stereotypical stupid "LAUGH BECAUSE ITS SUPPOSED TO BE FUNNY LOLO" roles.
PS Why don't we have the :downs: emoticons? I only see :saddowns:
-
It was probably the last person that modded the emoticons...
Might have accidentally deleted it.
-
The Truman Show was good. I saw it recently and liked it.
Me, Myself, and Irene is another funny one.
-
one i just saw today and liked was Around the World in 80 Days....i loved it!
-
We never had the :downs: emoticon, I only added a few from SA.
You can add some if you want, cplan. You ARE an admin, after all.

Ah, okay. Thought it required like server access or something.
How does one go about adding emoticons?
Oh fuck me, windshipper just realized he can add emoticons to GNE. This will either end awesomely or horribly, or both.
:bandwagon:
-
Awesomeness. Pure liquid awesomeness. :clint:
-
why is it a liquid?
-
why is it a liquid?
-
got it! you boozers!
-
Mormons don't always understand beer jokes.....
-
well it's funnier when we tell them! ;)
-
That's true.
And, just so everyone knows, the Mormon jokes are not meant to be offensive.
I have a sense of humor about this stuff and as far as I know, Erica isn't seriously offended by it.
-
Two comedies that are pretty good are "Young Frankenstein" and "Sherlock Holmes Smarter Brother."
-
The Thirteenth Warrior - <3
Plus it has Antonia Banderas.
You cannot go wrong.
-
Peaceful Warrior looks dumb but is actually very good once you watch it.
-
you know i think if it's a Mel Brooks film as a rule it's pretty good! but that's my opinion.
So let's add: Robin Hood: Men In Tights, and Spaceballs to that list please.
-
For some odd reason I was thinking Mel Gibson
-
wrong Mel...
-
Yeah - noticed that haha
-
Well so did I. :angryscream:
haha that's just me being a smartass.
You'll get used to it if you haven't already.
-
Everyone on here is a smart ass.
That's why we all get along.
-
Maybe that's why I'm on here so much.
I'm gonna have 100 posts already by tomorrow!!
-
Lol - please don't make this about posts.
that's not the point of the forums.
-
The Thirteenth Warrior
MissTake, read my sig. :toot:
-
:rara:
-
I'm not saying it's about posts.
I'm just pointing out how much I'm on here, especially last night.
-
OK- Just making sure.
-
he's been a member 3 days...tell me how sad is it that he already has 100+ posts.
-
:( :( :(
Some one is addicted...
-
Lol, I had close to that much my third day.
And it wasn't as active as it is now.
-
That's good.
Means I'm not the only one to get addicted to this.
-
haha - I was trying to get activity up and get somethings rolling.
If that constitutes me being addicted, then so-be-it.
I guess I'm addicted.
-
I know I am.
Tell me if this means anything.
As soon as I got back home today from dropping my girlfriend off at her house the first thing I did was get on here and I probably won't be off until I go to bed or people stop posting.
-
*shrugs*
-
That and I got a pass to come to the library to do school work and spent the whole time on here.
And it's not even close to the first time I've done it.
Did it all last week!
-
Here's another fun one:
Pi
I love that one...there's always more digits to memorize!
So far all I can remember is 3.1415926535897931
...because you never know when you'll be stranded with nothing but a ruler and have to find the circumference of something :p.
-
oh yeah that happens all the time right?
But you could always just divide 7 into 22 until you have enough digits.
-
Wrong! That dies after 2 decimal places.
Pi: 3.141592653589
22/7: 3.142857143
-
oh ok.
So 22/7 is as much an estimate as 3.14 I'm assuming?
-
Wrong! That dies after 2 decimal places.
Pi: 3.141592653589
22/7: 3.142857143
I love you Caenus.
Want to help me with applied stats =)?
-
lol ask the smart person for help.
good idea!
-
:uhm:
We're all smart.
Don't discredit other people. Kthnx.
-
can't I discredit myself at least?
-
Then make it known that you discrediting yourself and not the entirety of g33xnexus other than Caenus.
-
I actually wasn't discrediting anyone until my last post.
I was just saying that caenus specifically was smart.
-
Be careful of how you word things.
Sometimes it could lead to crucifixion.
-
so I've learned...
-
:innocent:
-
:cop: :siren: :elmohanged:
-
:words:
Hows about we get back to the subject at hand?
Another good one is Equilibrium with Christian Bale and Taye Diggs.
-
I haven't seen that one...
-
All right, I know I might be crucified for this, but David and I liked "The Golden Compass"
Really cute movie. =)
-
The next big movie I want to see is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
I think I have seen just about everything else that's out that is worth Watching.
-
Someone may have already suggested this one, but I don't feel like looking it up. The Departed is one that I really enjoyed. It confuses you at the beginning and makes you say "Do I not get it or is it just boring?" But about half way through, it all makes since and is an awesome movie. However, let it be known, this movie has more cussing than these forums. (Yes, it's surprisingly possible.)
-
Yes, it's surprisingly possible.
Holy hell...
Anyways, that sounds insanely familiar. I think I might have seen it. I'm going to see who's in the movie before I say that though...

"Get Shorty"

You ain't seen those Trajan, and you need to.

Yes, this was a very good movie, even when you consider it had Leonardo DiCaprio in it. The Ending, awesome.
EDIT: Wind, you have been around these Texan's so long. "Ain't" isn't a word bro.

Huh?
We all know that ain't is a word. Ain't is a colloquialism.
-
Wind, you have been around these Texan's so long. "Ain't" isn't a word bro.
Trajan didn't know...
-
Ah, sorry.
I tend to zone those two out when they're bickering like an old married couple.
-
I'm guessing you get used to it around here?
-
yeah...i swear..secretly i think Windy likes Trajan...ALOT :-p
-
secretly? I didn't it was a secret.
-
you have a point...but i think the secret is how much he likes him ;)
-
Ain't is not a colloquialism, a colloquialism is a speech pattern distinct to a particular geographic region.
Ain't is the contraction of a contraction. It's sloppy at best, but is now (sadly) recognized as a word.
-
it is rather sad.....it's a stupid word! not like insalubrious...now that's a fun word!
-

Are you intentionally going through and trying to find SAT words or did you specifically memorize that one so you could find a use for it at some time to look smart?
-
neither...i found it in a book i was reading and wanted to know what it means...
it means: unwholesome or uncondusive to health
it was used to desribe a tavern....."it was a squalid and insalubrious tavern."
plus i like words....i like the dictionary too :D

Well dress me up in a skirt and call me Sally, you could have fooled me on that. It's about time you put some of that learning to use.

Sally
-

I thought you and Trajan did that last week.

No that was calling me Susie. Sorry.
-
oh I see how it is now. :(
-
-Shaun of the Dead
Oh shit, and Hot Fuzz too!
-
I didn't like Shaun of the Dead.
-
I didn't like Shaun of the Dead.
It's ok. Because of that, God doesn't like you either.
edit: To contribute...
IRONMAN!:rockout:
-
Shaun of the Dead, while not necessarily a fantastic script/story/whatever, was by far the most intelligent parody I have ever seen and I hold in very high esteem for showing people like Mel Brooks that you don't have to be dirty or stupid to be funny and make fun of something (Mel only does that half the time - the writers of Scary Movie need to be drug out of bed, flayed, thrown into a pit of lye, and then shit upon).
-
Juno is at the top of my must see's. For an indie film, it was genuinely creative and sweet.
-
This film needs to be on everyone's must see list:
The Princess Bride
That is all...
-
I saw Iron Man yesterday and if you haven't seen it already, you should.
-
TheF1sh - <3333
Lynx and I just picked up a few movies the other day...
Dracula, Three Kinds and The Brothers Grimm are amazing movies.
I watch The Brothers Grimm like... three times today.

What Dracula? Is it the one based on Bram Stoker's novel?

If you guys want probably the best "list" of top movies, its the Sight and Sound polls that they do every 10 years (the interview a large number of critics and a large number of directors, whose individual top 10 lists are compiled). I have seen quite a few of these lists, but by and large Sight and Sound's polls are considered far and away the best.
Here are the most current versions:
http://www.bfi.org.uk/sightandsound/topten/
One of the nice things is you can see who voted for each film, and which films those people voted for. Some of the people annotated their list to say why they picked each film.
There is also a smaller poll of only UK critics regarding the best films of the last 25 years (done in 2002). Its a little more suspect (I doubt Yi Yi or Distant Voices, Still Lives will be on the list in ten years), but cool nonetheless:

Brothers Grimm
Yeah, that's fine if you like it, but I totally disagree on that one.
-
=(
Heath Ledger and Matt Daemon in the same movie? = Orgasm. You're just jealous :colbert:
